FIS/03/2020 – Cash Withdrawal Limit

The National Bank of Ethiopia has issued a directive (FIS/03/2020) that sets a cash withdrawal limit of 200,000 Ethiopian Birr per day and 1,000,000 Birr per month for natural persons, and 300,000 Birr per day and 2,500,000 Birr per month for juridical persons. The directive aims to promote the use of non-cash payment instruments, minimize the risk of robbery and other criminal activities, and ensure the safety and efficiency of the payment system, with financial institutions required to comply and submit weekly reports on exceptionally approved cash withdrawals.
