NBE/INT/13/2026 INTEREST RATES (AS AMENDED)

The National Bank of Ethiopia has issued a directive (NBE/INT/13/2026) allowing banks to freely determine their deposit and lending interest rates, effective January 9, 2026, with the aim of enabling market forces to influence interest rates and promoting financial stability. Banks are required to submit their interest rates and criteria to the National Bank of Ethiopia, and to calculate and report monthly weighted average deposit and lending interest rates.
