Privacy policy

Birr AI ("we", "us"; birrai.tech) is an independent tool for navigating the public documents of Ethiopia's financial institutions. It is not affiliated with, and not an official product of, the National Bank of Ethiopia or any other listed institution.

• Account data — your email address and (if you set one) display name, processed by our authentication provider Supabase to create and secure your account.
• Chat content — your questions and the assistant's answers, stored so your chat history survives across sessions and devices. You can delete individual messages and sessions at any time in the app.
• Saved documents & alert subscriptions — the documents you save and the email address used for "new document" alerts (sent via the email provider Resend).
• Analytics events — page views, questions asked, and documents opened, captured only after you accept analytics in the consent banner. Events go to PostHog, hosted in the EU. If you decline, no analytics are collected at all.

To generate an answer, your question text and short excerpts of the relevant official documents are sent to third-party AI providers — Groq, Inc. and Google Cloud — which process the request and return generated text. We do not send your account details, chat history, or analytics to them.

Please don't include personal or confidential information in questions you don't want processed for answer generation.

• We do not sell your data or run advertising.
• We do not re-host regulator documents — every citation links to the official source file.
• We do not require an account to use the core product; guest sessions work without any personal data.

Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Chat history is kept until you delete it (message by message, or session by session). Account data is kept until you ask us to delete your account. Alert-subscription data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data by emailing support@birrai.tech. We honour GDPR-style requests regardless of where you live, and handle data in line with Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation No. 1181/2019.

We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be announced in the app. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
